the stunning and prized pieces of Deruta Maiolica are forged from these four fundamental elements in a tradition that goes back more than 8 centuries.
High atop a hill overlooking the Tiber valley sits the town of Deruta in Umbria, Italy. It was here that the antique tradition of majolica ceramics – ceramics covered in an opaque glaze, hand painted with a motif and then fired – was born in the late 13th century. That tradition has continued.
The “Certificate of Guarantee” furnished with each piece of Deruta attests to the authenticity of the artisan production executed completely by hand in Deruta, Italy.
